did you know that the term surf originates from the turkish word "sürfüm", wich have roots in the ancient sanskrit words "safra/sufra". the words basicly means to bemount, as you do when you mount yourself on a horse. J. H. addison, professor in indo-european languages at the univeristy of berkely, CA misunderstood the words as to ride, like you ride a horse. two of his pupils Allan Clarkson and
James dupont thought the word would be appropriate to describe the watersport they had invented a few months earlier at the beaches of south california. they just americanized the word in 1943 and surfing was born.
